In the middle, the coil coating process is applied.  “What we do is actually referred to as high-speed, continuous coil coating,” Small says. “What makes high-speed, continuous coil coating possible is the non-stop application of the cleaning, the treating, the coating, the curing, and potentially the leveling, while the sheet is flat, all in one high-speed path through a coil coating line.”  The Key to Coil Coating  The key is being able to maintain a constant speed of the strip through the process. The accumulators allow this by letting the middle of the line to continue running at the prescribed rate while new metal is added at the decoil end, or the finished product is removed from the recoil end of the line.  “You don’t have starts and stops,” Small says. “This allows our coaters to consistently clean, treat, seal, apply a paper-thin coating, cure it evenly, and cool it back down without burning the metal or the coating.”  The Uses Of Aluminum Coil Aluminum is a truly remarkable metal. IMPACT STRENGTH  Impact strength refers to a material’s ability to withstand a blow without fracturing or shattering. In other words, it’s a method for determining the limit of how much energy a material can absorb via impact.  What is a Corrugated Metal Roofing Panel? That’s why it is crucial that the jamming signal is created and adapted individually and covers each radio frequency waveform precisely. In other words, the design and software of the RCIED jamming systems should provide the ability to create jamming signals without any limit, which means that any modulations or adapted RF waveforms can be generated.  The RCIED jammers have extended programming features, they are fast to set up and easy to use, have external batteries for autonomous operation, and can be easily transportable.  The main advantage of the RCIED jammers is a programmable signal generation that assures precious adaption to the different adversarial signals.   Drone Jammers: How They Work, Why They Exist and Are They Legal? It\'s not a secret that not everyone is ecstatic that there is a growing number of drones taking off to the skies nowadays. As with just about any piece of technology, there are drone pilots who use their drones less responsibly or more maliciously than others. With the growing concerns over privacy and security, it\'s not a surprise that there have been a lot of efforts to develop drone jammers.  These anti-drone technologies have common goals – to bring down a rogue or prevent them from entering a restricted area. How are drone pilots supposed to feel about this relatively new development? Do we need to watch out for our neighbors taking down our drones with their own drone jammers?   Are drone jammers necessary?  Despite efforts by the FAA and the NTSB to regulate drone flight, it cannot be denied that they have been and continue to be used for purposes that are malicious, unethical, or downright illegal. Cases of drones being used for voyeurism are incredibly common, with a few well-documented cases highlighting just how disturbing drones can be in the wrong hands. They have also interfered with emergency response operations, caused delays in commercial flights, and used to smuggle contraband into correctional facilities.  In 2015, a drone was able to fly onto the lawn of the White House – one of the strictest permanent “no-drone zones” in the country. This event proved just how drones can be when used to breach security, as they are too small to be detected by standard radar equipment.  Although the pilot responsible for the drone was only flying for fun and claimed to have lost control of it, the incident opened the national consciousness to the dangers of drone use. After all, the lawn where the drone was recovered was the same lawn where the presidential helicopter lands. Without security measures, it would have been easy to mount an attack using the drone.  With public safety and national security on the line, it really was only a matter of time before anti-drone technology was developed. Are they necessary? Arguably, yes, they are – at least, until a more comprehensive method for implementing accountability for drone pilots can be created. However, anti-drone technology must also be similarly regulated.   How do drone jammers work?  Short of shooting down a drone with physical projectiles, the only anti-drone technology in existence is what is commonly known as a “drone jammer.” As its name implies, such a device will jam the frequency – either 2.4 GHz or 5.8 GHz – that a drone uses to communicate with its ground station. The drone jammer does this by sending its own electromagnetic signal at the same frequency, thus overriding the drone’s communication systems. In most cases, this will result in the drone activating its Return to Home function, through which the drone pilot can be identified.  This description may conjure images of a drone jammer that looks like a gun, but this may not necessarily be the case. True enough, there are handheld drone jammers in existence. However, these are heavy and bulky devices that take a lot of effort to deploy and can hardly be used stealthily. More commonly used are perimeter-based drone jamming technologies that use signal emitters placed around an area that needs to be protected from drone intrusion.   Mobile phone jammer A mobile phone jam ;or blocker is a device that deliberately transmits signals on the same radio frequencies as mobile phones, disrupting the communication between the phone and the cell phone base station, effectively disabling mobile phones within the range of the jammer, preventing them from receiving signals and from transmitting them. Jammers can be used in practically any location, but are found primarily in places where a phone call would be particularly disruptive because silence is expected, such as entertainment venues.  Because they disrupt the operations of legitimate mobile phone services, the use of such blocking devices is illegal in many jurisdictions, especially without a license. When operational, such devices also block access to emergency services. At the most basic level, end mills are like drill bits but instead of only drilling vertically, they can also cut horizontally and have several form factors to get the cleanest cut for specific materials. Some are used only for plastics to keep from heating too much, some are designed to keep wood from chipping or tearing out, and some are designed for ultra-fine detail work. ;   Shape  From one end mill to the next, the most obvious difference you will find is that end mills come in many shapes and sizes. Some are thin and pointy, and others are wide and rounded. Some of the most common shapes you will find are fishtail (or flat), ball-nosed, and the bullnose, and each of these can be a straight cut or a tapered cut.   Size  Size is the biggest determination of what you can do with any given end mill. Large ones excel at grinding through a lot of material at once, but you don’t get a lot of detail out of your parts. With CNC milling, the radius of your end mill is the radius of any internal corner, so you will almost never have a perfectly square corner on the inside of a milled object. Smaller and smaller end mills can be used for each pass to clean up an edge and get the part to the final dimension and shape. ;   Straight vs. Tapered  There are generally two forms of end mills: straight and tapered. This is a choice based on the geometry of your finished part because a tapered end mill won’t be able to do all the same things as a straight end mill, and a straight end mill may not be the most efficient choice. By using a tapered end mill, the cross-sectional area is larger than a straight end mill of the same tip diameter, creating a much stronger end mill that is less likely to bend while milling. For perfectly vertical walls you will need to use a straight end mill as the taper just won’t reach. However for angled walls, using a straight end mill is not the most efficient, ideal choice.   Why Use a Single Flute End Mill? There are a lot of strange beasts out there in the cutting tool world and a lot of physics that are not obvious. For example, many machinists will know that more flutes mean more productivity, but that certain materials, like aluminum, require fewer flutes–usually two or three. If that\'s the case, when would it ever make sense to use 1 flute end mill? Is there a time when the least number of flutes possible is a good idea?  Now let\'s take a CNC Router example. ; Say it\'s got a spindle capable of 24,000 rpm, but it will go no slower than 12,000 rpm. ; When cutting aluminum, the first thing we discover is we need carbide to run at those surface speeds–preferably a good coating is needed to up the limit even more. As we begin working through the feeds and speeds (hopefully using G-Wizard Calculator!), we discover we\'re going to need some pretty high feed rates at those RPMs too. ; For a 1/4″ endmill, it wants to run at 24000 rpm and a feed rate of about 255 IPM. ; ;Now depending on the machine, we may have discovered a problem. What do we do if our machine can\'t feed that fast?  The answer is to use a 1 flute endmill because it halves the necessary feed rates without rubbing. So there is one case where it helps when the machine just can\'t feed fast enough to keep up with what the spindle is putting out and maintain adequate chip loads. However, in this article, we\'ll simplify things and go down to two basic ones - metal and Plexi.  For steel/aluminum engravings, I always use diamond bits since these give a great result and they are very durable. There are all kinds of different sizes but there are three basic bits that get you started in a good way.  When doing plexiglass engravings you can use the diamond bits, but I like to use a different kind of bit since I like to play around with different textures. Therefore, I use a cutting bit, instead. Since the Plexi is a lot softer than metal, you can do some very cool things indeed with cutting bits.   Drill Bits Drill bits ;are grouped into two categories: roller cone and drag (Fig. 11). Roller cone bits are of two types: milled-tooth and insert. They are designed to drill rocks of various types and strengths. The milled-tooth bits are generally used when tooth wear is not a critical issue, whereas the insert bits with tungsten carbide inserts are used when tooth wear becomes the limiting factor in the life of the bit. Both the milled-tooth and insert bits have bearings wear that limits their operating lives. The rock-cutting mechanisms of roller cone bits use a shoveling (gouging) action in soft formations and a crushing (chiseling) action in hard formations. Drag bits are of two types as well: polycrystalline diamond cutters (PDCs) and diamond matrix bodies. The major differences from the roller cone bits are the rock-cutting mechanisms and a lack of bearings. The PDC bit cutting mechanism is rock shearing, whereas the diamond matrix is rock grinding. PDC bits are used in all nonabrasive rocks regardless of strength, whereas the diamond matrix bits are generally used in extremely hard abrasive formations. Drill bit selection is based mainly on past bit performance records. Past experience and learning are key factors in selecting the right bit for the right hole interval to be drilled. We have a selection of machines from budget machines to machines for the contractor and keen gardener. Scythe mowers have come a long way since the old Allen scythes and Mayfield scythe mowers. I think many people have the experience to share regarding their old Allen scythe and the temperamental clutch!   Multi-function Lawn Mower Multi-function Lawn Mower (also known as a mower, grass cutter, or lawnmower) is a machine utilizing one or more revolving blades to cut a grass surface to an even height. The height of the cut grass may be fixed by the design of the mower, but generally is adjustable by the operator, typically by a single master lever, or by a lever or nut and bolt on each of the machine\'s wheels. The blades may be powered by manual force, with wheels mechanically connected to the cutting blades so that when the mower is pushed forward, the blades spin, or the machine may have a battery-powered or plug-in electric motor. The most common self-contained power source for lawn mowers is a small (typically one cylinder) internal combustion engine. ;  Two main styles of blades are used in Multi-function Lawn Mowers. What Is a Rotary Tiller and How Is It Used in Gardening? What is a Rotary Tiller? It works the soil by means of rotating tines or blades and is either self-propelled or drawn as an attachment behind either a two-wheel tractor or four-wheel tractor. A rotary tiller is an implement that utilizes its set of curved tines that are attached to a rotating shaft to dig into the soil and turn it into a seedbed that’s ready for planting.  What is a John Deere Rotary Tiller Used For?  A tractor-mounted rotary tiller is a great tool for breaking down soil in an existing garden or turning a piece of land into a new garden space. Small, self-propelled rotary tillers are typically used for domestic gardens. When they are attached to two-wheel or even four-wheel tractors, rotary tillers are utilized on farms. Additionally, rotary tillers have also been used for cleaning the exterior of oilfield pipes and preparing the ground for road construction.  Prepping Your Garden  Rotary tillers are used for primary tillage, as well as secondary tillage, where users break up clods and prepare the soil for planting. Next, they can also be used for cultivation while the crop is growing. If the vegetation is heavy, it is helpful to make a single pass and then wait until after the next rain before tilling again. This process helps to break down your vegetation. Primary tillage requires slow speed, but you may use a higher gear for secondary tillage. It’s important to run your tiller at full engine rpm and then shift gears up or down as necessary.  Cultivating Your Garden  Tillers are effective when it comes to cultivating your crops. The cultivation is usually done at a higher ground speed than what you would use for primary or secondary tillage. Using a very shallow depth setting when cultivating will help you avoid damaging crop roots. ;  Growing and Incorporating Organic Matter  Rotary tillers can help you to incorporate cover crops and green manure crops, which contribute to the health of your garden soil. Additionally, you can improve the structure and tilth of your soil by incorporating vegetation and compost. Planting cover crops is also a possibility. Once the seedbed is prepared, you can then broadcast the seed and run the tiller over the soil at high speed and a minimum depth, which will help to cover the seeds. Tillers are the most effective tool for covering larger seeds, such as peas. Small cover crop seeds – like ryegrass – might be covered too deeply with a tiller. Raking or dragging will be more effective for these smaller seeds.  Middlebusting  Wide sweeps, also known as middle busters, are the most useful accessory for your tiller. A middle buster attaches to the rear of the tiller, allowing you to dig a more shallow furrow. Two passes with a middle buster throw up a raised bed, which can be important in certain areas. Then, you can level the top of that raised bed to plant your crops. ;  Trenching  Tillers also have uses outside of gardens. One example of another use is digging ditches or trenches. Start by running the tiller over the ditch line to loosen the soil. Once this first step is complete, you will want to shovel out the loosened soil and repeat until you reach your desired depth. How do microcontrollers work?  A microcontroller is embedded inside of a system to control a singular function in a device. The temporary information that the microcontroller receives is stored in its data memory, where the processor accesses it and uses instructions stored in its program memory to decipher and apply the incoming data. It then uses its I/O peripherals to communicate and enact the appropriate action.  Microcontrollers are used in a wide array of systems and devices. Devices often utilize multiple microcontrollers that work together within the device to handle their respective tasks.  For example, a car might have many microcontrollers that control various individual systems within, such as the anti-lock braking system, traction control, fuel injection, or suspension control. All the microcontrollers communicate with each other to inform the correct actions. Some might communicate with a more complex central computer within the car, and others might only communicate with other microcontrollers. They send and receive data using their I/O peripherals and process that data to perform their designated tasks. Full SoC designs containing multiple processes can be put onto a single FPGA device.   Capacitor A capacitor ;is a device that stores electrical energy in an electric field. It is a passive electronic component with two terminals.  The effect of a capacitor is known as capacitance. While some capacitance exists between any two electrical conductors in proximity in a circuit, a capacitor is a component designed to add capacitance to a circuit. The capacitor was originally known as a condenser or condensation.   The physical form and construction of practical capacitors vary widely and many types of capacitors are in common use. Most capacitors contain at least two electrical conductors often in the form of metallic plates or surfaces separated by a dielectric medium. A conductor may be a foil, thin film, sintered bead of metal, or an electrolyte. The nonconducting dielectric acts to increase the capacitor\'s charge capacity. Materials commonly used as dielectrics include glass, ceramic, plastic film, paper, mica, air, and oxide layers. Capacitors are widely used as parts of electrical circuits in many common electrical devices. Unlike a resistor, an ideal capacitor does not dissipate energy, although real-life capacitors do dissipate a small amount (see Non-ideal behavior). When an electric potential difference (a voltage) is applied across the terminals of a capacitor, for example when a capacitor is connected across a battery, an electric field develops across the dielectric, causing a net positive charge to collect on one plate and net negative charge to collect on the other plate. No current actually flows through the dielectric. However, there is a flow of charge through the source circuit. The types of ceramic capacitors most often used in modern electronics are the multi-layer ceramic capacitor, otherwise named ceramic multi-layer chip capacitor (MLCC), and the ceramic disc capacitor. MLCCs are the most produced capacitors with a quantity of approximately 1000 billion devices per year. They are made in SMD (surface-mounted) technology and are widely used due to their small size. Ceramic capacitors are usually made with very small capacitance values, typically between 1nF and 1μF, although values up to 100μF are possible. Ceramic capacitors are also very small in size and have a low maximum rated voltage. They are not polarized, which means that they may be safely connected to an AC source. Ceramic capacitors have a great frequency response due to low parasitic effects such as resistance or inductance.   Characteristics  Precision and tolerances  There are two classes of ceramic capacitors available today: class 1 and class 2. Class 1 ceramic capacitors are used where high stability and low losses are required. They are very accurate and the capacitance value is stable in regard to the applied voltage, temperature, and frequency. The NP0 series of capacitors has a capacitance thermal stability of ; ±0.54% within the total temperature range of -55 to +125 °C. Tolerances of the nominal capacitance value can be as low as 1%.  Class 2 capacitors have a high capacitance per volume and are used for less sensitive applications. Their thermal stability is typically ±15% in the operating temperature range, and the nominal value tolerances are around 20%.   Size advantages  When high component packing densities are required, as is the case in most modern printed circuit boards (PCBs), MLCC devices offer a great advantage compared to other capacitors. To illustrate this point, the “0402 multi-layer ceramic capacitor package measures just 0.4 mm x 0.2 mm. In such a package, there are 500 or more ceramic and metal layers. The minimum ceramic thickness as of 2010 is on the order of 0.5 microns.   High voltage and high power  Physically larger ceramic capacitors can be made to withstand much higher voltages and these are called power ceramic capacitors.
